Whatever Brought You Here, Begin With This:

Begin With One Quiet Practice

You do not need to understand everything before you begin.

1. Select

Look through the song-prayer albums or choose a word that speaks to your heart. Notice what draws your attention. Start there.

Select your songs prayers depending on what you think you need. Don't think too hard when picking what to listen to. Let your feelings and intuition, which is often God speaking, guide in which song prayers to listen to today.

2. Reflect

Reflect on how you feel before you begin. On a scale of 1-10 (where 1 is low and 10 is high), how do you feel right now? It can be helpful to note this in your journal, notebook, or audio notes so that you can keep track of how this changes over daily use.
Participants in my research, experienced profound changes in their outlook that were so gradual. You may not be fully aware of your own transformation until you can reflect back upon it later.

3. Listen

Give yourself 20 uninterrupted minutes. Turn off notifications. Allow the music to wash over you. With time, you may begin to notice which words, feelings, or thoughts stand out and it may change each time you do the spiritual practice.

4. Reflect

Check in with yourself again after you finish. How do you feel on a scale of 1-10(where 1 is low and 10 is high)? Note it.

1. How are you doing now?
2. Did you experience anything during your listening?
3. Where did you notice God as you listened?

5. Repeat

Revisit this post daily and do it again. God will be working on transforming your heart. You may not notice it right away. That's normal. Stay with it and draw closer to God. He's right there with you.

This is a simple, repeatable practice of spiritual reflection and soul care. This is the rhythm I have followed for decades:

Worship. Pray. Listen. Obey.
